10 ways to save money whilst planning your Tipi Wedding

Although some couples (and when we say couples, we mean brides!) don’t like to admit it, most have been planning their perfect wedding day (in their heads, at least) for years. One thing they don’t really consider whilst dreaming up perfection in every way, is how much all of it’s going to cost!

With 77{8ed08b855cb50d0cfaf4a92a5510da70ed8f9f37abc84eb6ff1b721ea8cf6593} of brides blowing their budget, it may seem easier said than done, but at Tentario we’ve put together a list of ten ways you can keep costs down.

Make a budget

Obvious….right? A lot of couples make the fatal error of not setting a budget before plunging head first into their planning. More often than not, costs escalate out of control for these couples. Make sure you don’t fall into this trap and be realistic when setting your budget costs based on what you can afford to spend.

Pre-loved items

So many couples have styling items, props and accessories that they purchased for their big day, but have no intention of ever using again. There are plenty of wedding forums on eBay or sites such as  Sell My Wedding (http://www.sellmywedding.co.uk/) where you can pick up some great bargains.

 Consider off-peak

63{8ed08b855cb50d0cfaf4a92a5510da70ed8f9f37abc84eb6ff1b721ea8cf6593} of couples decide to wed between May and September. Venues and suppliers obviously target this market and therefore their hire prices reflect this. Considering an off-peak wedding date can give you much more bargaining power. There’s nothing wrong with a Winter Wonderland theme to your wedding and our Tipis look magical in the snow!

Try some DIY

Rather than buying save the dates, invites, favours or decorations for your Tipis, why not consider making these yourselves? This can be really fun and a great way to get the whole family involved as well as adding a really heartfelt, personal touch to your big day.

Try Groupon, vouchercodes.co.uk and moneysavingexpert.com

There are always offers floating around, it’s just a case of knowing where to find them. It may be that you can pick up decorations at a reduced price, a bargain on the bridesmaids dresses or even a cheap flight for your honeymoon.

DIY catering

Ok, maybe not entirely, but getting a relative to make your wedding cake, having a dessert table where your guests bring along a homemade cake or dessert (think The Great Wedding Bake Off!) or buying evening reception food in bulk can be a cost-effective way of feeding the masses.

Hit the sales

Consider the January / post-Summer sales for just about everything related to your wedding, especially bridesmaid dresses. Get smart too – if you’re looking for heart shaped decorations – head to the shops after Valentine’s Day or if Winter Wonderland is your theme – try after Christmas.

Defy expectations (this is our personal favourite!)

Make sure at all times that you’re planning the wedding YOU want! Don’t just include things because everyone else does, at the end of the day it’s YOUR wedding. It could be asking the groomsmen to wear their own suits, opting for a relaxed street-food style catering as opposed to a formal sit-down meal, or sending out song recommendations on your invites so you can construct your own playlist in the evening.

If you don’t ask…you don’t get. Most suppliers are open to negotiation, so in our experience it’s definitely worth asking the question. If it’s third party equipment such as toilets, heaters or generators that you’re after, consider seeing if they will deliver for free or provide a discount if you source more than one of these from the same supplier. Caterers may be willing to give you free canapés, your florist free buttonholes or your venue a cheaper rate. The worst they can say is no!

Cut the guest list

Focus on inviting the people that mean the most to you. Not only will you have a far more intimate wedding, you’ll be able to save a fortune on interior furnishings, table decorations, flowers and food.
