Finding a Venue for a Tipi Wedding
Whilst having an outdoor Tipi wedding means you can do things exactly as you please, it can also create a few dilemmas from the start. Namely, “Where on earth am I going to put a Giant Hat Tipi full of 120 our friends and family members?!”. For the majority of us, who don’t have houses with grounds the size of Downton Abbey and with no chance of squeezing a Tipi in the back garden (even if your dad doesn’t mind removing trees/flowerbeds/the shed!), we need to get a little creative and have a think about other options.
Where to start? The first thing to think about is what sort of venue/location you envisage your wedding or event taking place. Also have a think about what sort of “theme” you’re going for. If you’ve got visions of a festival styled wedding with your guests glamping/camping afterwards then you need somewhere a) with lots of space and b) that allows overnight camping. In this scenario a field or woodland venue would probably suit you best. This sort of venue will also sit in well with those of you who don’t want to be controlled by strict curfews.
If you love the idea of a Tipi wedding but can’t think of anything worse than getting into a tent on your wedding night then a somewhere like a country house with grounds and rooms available to stay overnight might be the best place for you. Do you like the idea of having your ceremony and reception in one place? If so, you’ll need to look out for venues who have a licence for civil ceremonies.
What’s next? Once you’ve decided what sort of venue and theme you would like, as a first port of call for venue suggestions, ask us! We’ve worked with plenty of venues in the past and can contact other suppliers in the events industry for suggestions too. So use us, it’s what we’re here for! We have a selection of a few of our favourite sites on our “Venues and Land” page on our website at http://www.tentario.co.uk/#!venues/c23zy but have plenty more to hand as well.
If you’re going for a festival/rustic/bohemian themed day then it may be that a great spot of land is what you need. Try looking online for “land hire for events”. There are sites such as http://www.landforevents.co.uk/ and http://www.fieldlover.com/ which are a great place to begin. If there isn’t anything suitable on there in your area, try contacting local farmers who are usually quite keen to rent out a field or two – land is not usually something they’re short on! Another great idea is to contact local, countryside village halls who have land accompanying their hall. They will usually welcome making a bit of extra money to put into the village fund. Private schools, sports fields and cricket clubs are another great place to look into.
If you want something a little more formal, then don’t rule out traditional wedding venues such as country hotels and houses but just be mindful that they might be a little more expensive as you will more than likely be charged a fee for hiring the whole venue as well as the land. We recommend looking at slightly smaller hotels and houses who can’t cater inside for a large number of guests but have land for a Tipi event to take place. Even if you find a venue who haven’t had a Tipi or marquee wedding in the past, don’t be afraid to ask if they would consider one – if you don’t ask you don’t get and all that ;). It’s often places such as these country houses and hotels who have licences for civil ceremonies too so if you don’t want to worry about how your guests will get from the church / registry office to your venue – this could be the right option for you.
