How to choose the perfect wedding theme
For any bride, her wedding day needs to be special. Part of what makes it one of the most special days of her life is how the day makes her feel. Not only is this down to marrying the man of her dreams (of course!), it’s also seeing the result of all the preparation that has gone into the day itself, including choosing the overall wedding theme.
The wedding theme is a crucial part of the organisation process – but it’s also a difficult one to decide on. Common themes can include vintage, rustic, glamourous, beach, or even a costumed or themed wedding, but ultimately, it needs to reflect the couple.
So how do you go about choosing the perfect wedding theme? Here’s our top tips.
#1: Start with the time of year
Whatever season you’re planning to get married in, knowing this from the start will help narrow down your wedding theme. Colours and styles will change throughout the year, dictated by the changing seasons. This influences the flower choice and availability, as well as the choice of attire, for the bridal party itself and the guests.
#2: Decide on your starting focus
Once the time of year has been decided, your next important decision is what is the starting focus. In other words, what is the key piece of your wedding day? Many brides-to-be will make their first purchase their dress, with everything else being planned around it. For others, it will be the location, whilst a few will already know what their ideal theme is, and work around that. So, decide, what is your starting focus – what is the most important key piece for you?
#3: Think colour and mood
Colour is often the simplest of the two choices, as we all have our own favourites. The only time colour is an issue, is when the couple themselves have differing opinions! However, if this is the case, the groom-to-be will usually let his partner have the final say!
When it comes to mood, the style and colour will play a part. If you want a classy wedding, you’ll opt for making the event feel glamourous – meaning using colours such as gold, silver, white and cream. Want a natural wedding and you’ll want your guests to feel relaxed and to have fun. Colours can be light pastels or brighter hues, depending on your personal preferences.
#4: Go with your own tastes and preferences
When it comes to your overall wedding theme, it needs to be personal to you both. Go with what you like, show your own unique personality, quirks, favourites and tastes.
#5: Inspiration is everywhere
Finally, if you’re really struggling to choose your perfect wedding theme, look for inspiration. Go check out the latest wedding magazines and head to online sites for ideas – Pinterest is a great place to start! By looking for ideas and inspiration, you’ll soon have your own perfect wedding theme start to take shape in your head – and you can then do what you need to do, to make it your reality.
