How to keep guests cool at a summer wedding

The weather always plays a key role at weddings and, if you’re experiencing the current summer heat, it’s inevitable you’ll be wondering how to keep guests cool at your upcoming wedding.

With the British weather being so unpredictable, the sun might not reappear now – but just in case it does, here’s our top tips for keeping your guests cool!

Practical wedding planning to keep guests cool

Set up seating areas under trees and in shady areas (if there’s any around!). If you’re having your ceremony outside, provide your guests with a way to protect themselves from the sun. This can include something as simple as having parasols and umbrellas available or giving each guest a hand-held fan.

You’ll also want to keep your guests cool inside the tipi, so look to hire electric fans. These can be placed strategically around the interior.

Our top practical wedding tip is to avoid metal chairs. Wooden seats are a much more practical seating solution for your guests, as metal chairs warm up quickly in the sun – creating an ouch moment when your guests sit down!

Hand out summer-friendly wedding favours

Get summer-friendly with your wedding day favours. As mentioned earlier, hand-held fans are a great idea. Other options include refillable drinking bottles or drinking glasses, sunglasses and one-size-fits-all flip flops.

Provide cooling refreshments

Once you’ve covered the basic practicalities around your wedding, it’s time to focus on keeping your guests cool for the rest of the day. Providing ice cold treats, such as Pimms ice lollies and ice cream cones, is a great option. You may even want to hire an ice cream van to visit your location (we totally recommend Pinks Vintage Ice Cream!).

One thing your guests will need is access to water. Make it easily accessible to them, by providing jugs of ice water on your tables, or having a central water filling station set up. Another thing to consider is alcohol and heat don’t always combine well together. If you’re looking to keep your guests cool and comfortable, provide non-alcoholic fruit juice-based cocktail options or iced smoothies – the drinks will last longer and keep them hydrated.

Go that extra mile with bathroom saviours

Finally, the summer heat gives you a prime opportunity to go wow your guests with those nice little extra touches. One way you can do this is to provide travel sized saviours in the bathroom. A simple basket of heat and sun savours could consist of face blotters, spray deodorant, baby wipes and even hair ties.

With the British weather being so unpredictable, the chances are the heat isn’t something you’ll have to worry about for long. However, if you’re looking for a way to keep your guests cool, I hope our top tips have helped – and if you’re looking for wedding day suppliers, check out our recommended friends!
